When should we book a Celebrant? You should book your Celebrant early in your planning, as soon as you have decided on your wedding date and your venue. Good Celebrants get booked up quickly! You will need to give the name of your Celebrant when you make your application to marry to the Office of the Superintendent Registrar and you can do this from 12 months before your wedding.
Can I have a ceremony anywhere? A legal wedding ceremony must take place in a licensed venue. You can apply for a venue to be licensed such as a private garden or an area on a beach through the Office of the Superintendent Registrar or choose one of the many approved venues below: www.gov.je/LifeEvents/GettingMarried/Pages/ApprovedMarriageLocations.aspx
Can I have a ceremony at any time? You can marry on any day of the week between 8.00am and 7.00pm and your ceremony must have finished by 7pm.
How many ceremonies do you conduct in a day? We normally conduct one ceremony per day. Occasionally in high season, when demand is high, we might conduct two ceremonies but only if there is sufficient time (at least 3 hours) between each ceremony. We will always ensure that we give our full, undivided attention to your ceremony.
How long should we allow for the ceremony? Ceremonies usually last between 40-45 minutes.
Can we include religious readings and / or music in our ceremony? Although our ceremonies are non-religious civil ceremonies, you can add religious readings or music if they are presented / performed in your ceremony. This is helpful for couples who might have differing beliefs and we can give further advice on this.
Can we write our own vows? Yes, this can be a beautiful addition to your ceremony for those couples who want to do this and we can assist. Some couples choose to send us their vows individually so that each doesn’t know until the day what the other will say.
Do I have to live in Jersey to get married there? No. Many couples travel to the Island for their weddings. If you don’t live in Jersey you need to state on your application whether you are an EU, EEA or Swiss national. If you are not, you will be provided with a letter confirming your provisional marriage booking and you can apply to the Home Office.
How much does it cost to get married in Jersey? Currently fees to the Office of the Superintendent Registrar vary between £315.19 and £577.84 depending on your venue and the date of your ceremony. Our Celebrant fee is in addition to this.
